R6040: Calendar Astronomy in Splash Fall 2017 (Nov. 11 - 12, 2017)
How did we come up with the notion of a day, a month, a year? How do we predict seemingly irregular astronomical events in our solar system, such as eclipses? This class will give an introduction to the periodic nature of our solar system that gave rise to the formation of the calendars of various cultures.

E5808: Construct a Dream Toy with Design Thinking! in Splash Spring 2017 (Apr. 22 - 23, 2017)
This is a fun-filled, fast-paced class where we will explore Design Thinking as a method for building empathy and solving problems. We will then discover some interesting technologies together to help you construct a Dream Toy for whomever you'd like to build! Let's have fun with rapid prototyping, tinkering and interactive tools!

B4583: Molecular Gastronomy and Fermentation in Splash Fall 2015 (Nov. 07 - 08, 2015)
When you're a chemist and a cook, you begin to think of your kitchen as a lab and your food as your creations. Come learn about the chemical (and biochemical) processes used to make the foods we eat every day. Part I will focus on molecular gastronomy: the application of chemistry to the culinary arts. You'll learn why some foods melt when they get warmer - like ice cream - while others solidify - like methylcellulose ice cream. Wait, what? Part II will focus on fermentation: the use of microbial cultures to impart new flavors and qualities to existing foods. Ask us what our favorite yeast species is, or what a kombucha scoby is after all. Allergens: lactose, methocel food gum, eggs.

P4644: Calendar Astronomy in Splash Fall 2015 (Nov. 07 - 08, 2015)
How did we come up with the notion of a day, a month, a year? How do oracles and prophets of the past predict celestial events with unbelievable precision? This class will give an introduction to the periodic nature of our solar system that gave rise to the formation of the calendars of various cultures, and show you how you can become a prophet too!

B3976: Crime Scene Chemistry in Splash Fall 2014 (Nov. 08 - 09, 2014)
There is a killer among you! Enter the classroom as a forensic scientist investigating the (fake) murder of a Stanford student! Learn about the basic chemical principles involved in Crime Scene Investigation, such as the detection of blood with luminol. By the time you leave, you will have gained a better understanding of chemical reactions and have caught your first murderer in the process.

P3587: Calendar Astronomy in Splash! Spring 2014 (Apr. 12 - 13, 2014)
How did we come up with the notion of a day, a month, a year? How do we predict seemingly irregular astronomical events in our solar system, such as eclipses?
