Past Classes

(Clicking a class title will bring you to the course's section of the corresponding course catalog)

C7264: Chemistry & Renewable Energy in Splash Spring 2019 (May. 04 - 05, 2019)
Lean some of the ways that chemistry can provide us with renewable energy today & in the future! We will focus on two electrochemical devices: batteries and fuel cells. You will learn the very basics of how they work, and we will discuss their similarities and differences. Class will include a working mini-Fuel Cell Car as a demo! Class will focus mostly on understanding the basics of how both devices operate, and should be accessible to anyone with an interest in learning more! Will be an interactive lecture.

C6582: Chemistry & Renewable Energy in Splash Fall 2018 (Dec. 01 - 02, 2018)

C5230: The Chemistry of Fuel Cells in Splash Fall 2016 (Dec. 03 - 04, 2016)
Heard of fuel cells but still wondering what all the hype is about? Learn about how a fuel cell works, how a fuel cell is similar to a battery, and what we can expect from fuel cells in the future. We will also talk briefly about what aspects of fuel cells researchers try to improve, and what approaches they might take to doing so. This discussion will be fairly non-specific and should be accessible to most students, although more detailed questions are welcomed if you have them! The class will be primarily a very interactive lecture, but will also include a working fuel cell mini-vehicle as a demo!
