R3084: Languages in Contact Around the World in Splash! Fall 2013 (Nov. 02 - 03, 2013)
Spoken languages are constantly changing. Although languages can evolve without outside influence, they can also be influenced by other languages in a number of surprising ways. In this class, we'll introduce some of the various components of language (phonology, syntax, morphology, lexicon) and take a look at how language contact affects these components, with examples from English as well as from other languages around the world.
