In this class, we will explore the structure of DNA and how DNA is packaged into chromatin. We will also discuss the basics of epigenetic control of gene expression.

B4396: Introduction to the biology of cancer in Splash Spring 2015 (Apr. 11 - 12, 2015)
In this class, we will explore the molecular biology of cancer. What types of genes are implicated in carcinogenesis? What exactly causes a cell to become cancerous?

E3459: Making Bioplastics in Splash! Spring 2014 (Apr. 12 - 13, 2014)
What is bioplastic and how is it made? In this class, we will explore the properties of plastics derived from biomass and how they compare to traditional plastics. We will investigate the biochemistry of starch-based bioplastics and we will make thermoplastic starch, the most common type of bioplastic.
